MOODY AND DRAMATIC CUSTOM COTTAGE KITCHEN, MUSKOKA

Nestled in Muskoka, this custom-built cottage kitchen perfectly balances rustic charm with modern luxury creating a timeless yet contemporary space for a family of four and their two beloved dogs. This bespoke kitchen showcases the natural elegance of walnut, industrial-inspired accents, and thoughtful craftsmanship, making it the heart of this lakeside retreat. Every detail is designed to balance functionality and aesthetics, from its striking island to its sleek storage solutions.

The space exudes warmth while maintaining a moody, dramatic aesthetic featuring thoughtful details and striking materials that elevate the experience of everyday cooking and entertaining. Its cohesive design elements harmonize with the rest of the home, creating a timeless yet bold centerpiece for family gatherings.

The Details

This kitchen is a celebration of walnut's natural beauty, showcased through stained flat-cut walnut cabinetry with classic shaker doors. Metal and reeded glass accents add depth and sophistication, including metal-framed reeded glass doors and a custom cold steel range hood that mirrors the family’s fireplace in the adjacent living space. The walnut kitchen island commands attention with its waterfall-edged, leathered granite countertop, measuring an impressive six inches thick to create a statement piece of texture and contrast. Integrated Bocci outlets contribute to the sleek and seamless look, keeping the focus on the kitchen’s stunning design.

The bar area extends the kitchen’s luxurious feel with metal-framed reeded glass upper cabinets, a walnut floating shelf, and black wire stemware racks. A grey mirrored backsplash enhances the space, reflecting light and adding an industrial touch. Designed for entertaining, this area includes a dedicated sink and a beverage fridge for ultimate convenience. In contrast to the moody main kitchen, the pantry provides a white and bright retreat while maintaining continuity through the use of the same fine-grained grey quartz countertop.

The Materials

This kitchen's moody yet contemporary ambiance is brought to life through a thoughtfully curated palette of rich, textured, and striking materials. The cabinetry, crafted from stained flat-cut walnut, serves as a warm and grounding element, while the addition of reeded glass and metal accents infuses the space with industrial sophistication. The countertops add layers of visual and tactile interest: the perimeter and bar area feature fine-grained grey quartz, offering a concrete-inspired industrial ambiance.
